Teno tour Tenerife
Six products go into the Teno massif and 78 reviews stand behind them — a thin catalogue for the oldest corner of Tenerife. The reason to read this page is not the choice: it is that the road to the cape is shut to private cars every day of the year, and almost nobody tells you before you hire one.
You get there by bus, by boat or on a tour
Private vehicles, bicycles and walkers are barred from the TF-445 to Punta de Teno every day of the week. Access is by the 369 bus from Buenavista del Norte — about twenty minutes, €1 each way — by taxi, by boat from Los Gigantes, or on a tour with a permit. A hire car gets you to Buenavista and no further, which is where a lot of carefully planned days end.

What is in, what is not
- A vehicle that is allowed past the barrier, on the land tours
- Masca village, on most of them
- The lighthouse and the cape, if the product names Punta de Teno
- Hotel pickup from the southern resorts
- Punta de Teno on every Teno product — read the stops
- The Masca gorge walk, which is booked separately
- Any access outside the seasonal window
- A swim at the cape on a north-swell day
Before you plan the far west
Teno, asked and answered
Can you drive to Punta de Teno?
No. Private vehicles, bicycles and pedestrians are barred from the TF-445 every day of the week. Access is by the 369 bus from Buenavista del Norte, by taxi, by boat, or on a tour whose vehicle holds a permit.
How do you get to Punta de Teno?
The 369 bus runs from the station in Buenavista del Norte to the cape in about twenty minutes for €1 each way. Boats from Los Gigantes reach it from the sea, and the land tours on this page carry the permit that lets them through.
What time is the road to Punta de Teno open?
From 10:00 to 19:00 between 1 October and 20 June, and from 08:00 to 20:00 between 21 June and 30 September. Vehicles carrying boats have a slightly longer window, subject to parking space.
Is Teno worth visiting?
If you like empty places, yes — it is the oldest and least built corner of the island, with the lighthouse looking straight down the Gigantes wall. But it is a long way from the resorts and the access rules make it a planned trip, not a detour.
What is the best Teno tour?
Full-Day Excursion to Masca and Teno at €75 is the best rated at ★4.9, though from only 11 reviews. Boat tour from the Los Gigantes Cliffs to Punta Teno at €30 is the cheapest way to see the cape at all and rates ★4.7 from 18.
How old is the Teno massif?
Its rocks date from about 7.2 to 6.3 million years ago, which makes it one of the three old blocks the rest of Tenerife grew between. The cliffs at Los Gigantes are the seaward edge of it.
Is Masca part of Teno?
Yes — the village sits inside the Parque Rural de Teno, and most tours treat the two as one day. The gorge walk down from Masca is booked separately and is not a sightseeing product.
Is there anything at the cape itself?
A lighthouse, a small rocky beach and the view back along the cliffs. No shop, no café and very little shade — take water, and note the time of the last bus.
