Teide sits in the centre with the caldera around it at two thousand metres, and the roads climb to it from every side. The coast is a ring: the resorts and every boat in the south-west, the old towns and the cloud forest in the north, the capital in the east, the cliffs and the gorge in the west. Nothing on the island is more than about two hours from anything else — but the mountain in the middle means you go round it, not through it.

South to north looks short on a map and is not: the motorway runs round the coast, and the direct road goes over the caldera at two thousand metres. In winter that road closes for snow several days a year. Plan your week by direction, not by distance.
2 034 square kilometres with 342 kilometres of coastline — the largest of the Canary Islands. Teide in the centre reaches 3 715 metres as measured by the national geographic institute, which is also the highest point in Spain.
About an hour and a half from the southern resorts to Puerto de la Cruz on the motorway, or a slower crossing over the caldera on the TF-21. Nothing on the island is more than roughly two hours from anything else.
In the middle, inside a caldera whose floor sits at about 2 000 metres. Roads climb to it from the south through Vilaflor, from the north through La Orotava and from the west through Chío, and they meet inside the park.
South for sun, beaches and every boat in the catalogue; north for the old towns, the laurel forest and a shorter drive to the west. Both are about an hour from the volcano.
Los Cristianos, Costa Adeje and Los Gigantes, all on the south-west coast. The resident animals live in the channel towards La Gomera, about twenty minutes out.
Not for the sights themselves — tours collect from the main resorts and the tram links Santa Cruz to La Laguna. A car is what makes the free half of the island reachable on your own schedule.
Yes, the TF-21 over the caldera, and it is the best drive on the island. It closes for snow several days most winters, which is when the crossing has to go round the coast.
La Gomera is visible from Los Cristianos and a ferry day away; La Palma and Gran Canaria are longer crossings. All of them cost a whole day of Tenerife.
Not in this catalogue. A Tenerife lava cave tour means Cueva del Viento at Icod de los Vinos — one of the longest lava tubes in the world — and it is booked directly with the cave’s own visitor centre, in small timed groups, not through a tour operator.
A Piramides de Guimar guided tour Tenerife is not sold as a product here. The ethnographic park at Güímar sells its own entry and you visit it yourself; the island tours that pass through the valley stop at the coast rather than the terraces.
A Tenerife botanic garden tour has no dedicated product either. The Jardín Botánico in Puerto de la Cruz is a ticketed garden you walk into, and the northern day tours that mention gardens are passing it rather than guiding it.
