Put the two evenings side by side and the case makes itself. The cheaper tour parks you at a roadside restaurant, sells the meal as an extra, and states plainly that jackets and blankets are not provided at 2 000 m after dark. This one goes to Restaurante 7 Cañadas inside the park at 2 130 m, includes three courses with bread, water and wine, hands out a glass of cava at sunset and lends coats to anyone who asks.
The guides are Starlight-certified, the photographs and a sunset time-lapse come free afterwards, and the difference in rating is not subtle. What you are still buying is a coach evening. The published timeline gives two and a quarter hours in the vehicle each way against three and a half hours on the ground, and there are twenty-nine drop-off points on the way home — more than the cheaper tour has. Self-drive options exist, with or without the dinner, and they remove that half of the night entirely.

That is the figure from a trigonometric survey in 1920, and it is still quoted widely — including here. The surveyed height is 3 715 m.
What should I wear?
Warm clothing and comfortable shoes. Coats are available on loan if you ask, which is the practical difference between this evening and a cold one.
